Our history

2012

Official inauguration of the new terminal, serving 14 routes and 14 airlines.

2014

ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications obtained.

2017

Achieved Carbon Neutral accreditation under Costa Rica’s National Program.

2018

Terminal expansion added boarding lounges, main hall space, and a new baggage carousel with a USD 10.3 million investment.

2019

Recognized as Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean (under 2 million passengers) by ACI ASQ.

2020

Obtained ISO 50001 (Energy Management) certification. Named Best Airport and Most Improved Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI ASQ). Earned Health Accreditation. Resumed international operations after border closures.

2021

Multiple ACI ASQ awards, including Best Airport and Best Cleaning Measures. Received Voice of the Passenger recognition. Launched new commercial brand: Guanacaste Airport.

2022

Achieved ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation (Level 2). Earned ACI Airport Customer Experience Accreditation (Level 1). Reached 10 million passengers since terminal opening. Continued recognition as Best Airport and Best Cleaning Measures (ACI ASQ).

2023

Received ACI ASQ awards for Best Airport and Best Cleaning Measures. Honored with the Director General’s Roll of Excellence. Upgraded to ACI Airport Customer Experience Accreditation (Level 2). Awarded “Green Airport” by ACI.

2024

Recognized by ACI ASQ as Best Airport (under 2 million passengers). Awarded for Most Dedicated Staff and Most Efficient Passenger Flow in Latin America.

2025

Record year with 1,973,831 passengers, tripling traffic since opening. Operated 26 direct international routes with 12 airlines.
